Echoes Unheard: A Stand Against Gender-Based Violence

The Echoes Unheard community convened today to address the pressing issue of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), marking a significant step in the fight against GBV, Intimate Partner Violence (IPV), and Femicide. The event united a diverse group of students committed to driving change.

Key Discussions on GBV Roots

Participants engaged in candid discussions, exploring the underlying causes of GBV, including cultural norms, power imbalances, systemic silence, and societal conditioning. Contributors from various backgrounds, including male allies, shared insights, emphasizing the need for collective action and empathy to address this widespread issue.

Mrs. Sarah Leads with Insight

Although our esteemed Chief Guest, Haja Zainab Hawa Bangura (DG, UNON), was unable to attend, we were honored to host a specialist from her office with deep expertise in gender issues. Mrs. Sarah, a prominent speaker, delivered a compelling address, highlighting real-life examples of GBV and its manifestations. She provided practical guidance on identifying warning signs such as control and isolation, understanding legal rights, and building support networks. “Awareness is the seed, but action is what makes it grow,” she stated, urging vigilance and unity among attendees. Her insights sparked powerful conversations on gender and leadership, inspiring students to reflect, share, and engage.

A Pledge for Transformation

The gathering solidified Echoes Unheard’s commitment to uplifting survivors’ voices, challenging oppressive systems, and promoting education, empathy, and unity. Mrs. Sarah’s call to remain aware, build support, and persist in the fight resonates as the movement gains momentum. This event marks the beginning of a broader effort to create a world free from fear.
